Fetal Fibronectin in Patients at High Risk for Preterm Birth

Abstract
|
|
|
Twenty-five pregnant women with vaginal discharge between 22 weeks and 36 weeks gestational age vfisited at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hanyang University Hospital from June 1996 to November 1996.
The presence of Fetal Fibronectin in cervicovagnal discharge was assessed with ROM -check (membrane immunoassay) for detection of rupture of membrane in patients at high risk for preterm birth.
The results showed a significant longer interval from examination to delivery in women with negative-results group than in those with positive-results group and a significant lower I minutes and 5 minutes Apgar score respectively in positive-results group than negative-results group.
At our studies, the presence of fetal fibronectin for detection of preterit birth had a sensitivity, 61.5 % ; a specificitry, 100 % ; positive predictive value, 100 % ; and negati ve predictive value, 70.6 %.
The detection of Fetal Fibronectin in cervicovaginal discharge of patient: in high risk for preterm birth will provide useful predictive value of preterm birth.
